GEDCOM Note
Per William A. Deyo, message posted on King George County, Virginia query board, 10-24-1999: "Rebecca (Bowen) Jett was the daughter of Stephen Bowen (b. pre 1686, d. 1749, King George Co., VA). Rebecca's mother was NOT Susanna Pratt. Her mother died before 1749. Her mother is often confused with Susanna Bowen who died in King George County in 1761. That Susanna Bowen was not the widow of Stephen Bowen, but was his unmarried daughter who had an illegitimate child, John Pratt-Bowen, whose father was said to have been Burkett Pratt. Rebecca's real mother was a Miss Richardson, daughter of Thomas Richardson and Mary (Thatcher) Clapham, daughter of Silvester Thatcher, Gentleman. The will of Mary (Thatcher) Clapham Richardson (d. 1727, King George Co.) calls Stephen Bowen "son" and also names his son, Stephen, as her grandson. Stephen Bowen was the son of John Bowen who left a will in Old Rappahannock Co., VA, in 1686, naming his wife, Rebecca, and his children: Matthew, John, Stephen, Alexander, Martha, and an unborn child."
