About Rebecca Lott
It is commonly claimed that Rebecca and her sister Jannetje are a couple of the unnamed daughters of Jan Jansz VERKERCK and Gertje \\, but that seems to be incorrect, because Rebecca married a man from Flatbush, and raised children there.
Whereas that Jan Jansz Van Kirk, born about 1664, took the oath of allegiance in his native New Utecht, (Brooklyn) Kings County, New York as a native in 1687, but then joined in the Dutch movement to Freehold, Monmouth Co., NJ around 1700. There he established roots when he bought land there from Richard SALTER. He died some time before the inventory of property of the will in which he is named as "John VANKIRK of Freehold" which was taken 28 Jan 1724. In his will (signed with his mark) written 10 Feb 1723, his possibly second wife is Alsey (Alice). The will was probated 3 Mar 1724. Executors were wife Alsey and sons Henry & John. Other children are not named.
Rebecca and Jannetje do not have known patronyms, so it is not clear who their Van Kirk father really was, who would have remained in Brooklyn at least until the time of their births in the 1710s, almost a full generation after their likely extended relatives had migrated southwest to New Jersey.
But then again, it is possible that close ties remained between the two communities. So in the absence of verifiable parents, I [Steven Mix, 7th great grandson of Rebecca] attached that couple as parents, while research is ongoing. In any case, there is little doubt that a close family relationship of some sort exists.
