About Rebecca M. Bowman

Schermerhorn family bible: Newspaper clippings Marble Rock Journal. Mrs J.B. Schermerhorn met with sudden death under the feet of the old family horse last Friday. She was attempting to administer medicine to the old horse, when in some manner the horse threw her down and trampled her to death. She was discovered at noon by neighbors who were searching for her. She was 71 years old. The body was laid beside that of her husband who died three years ago.

Obituary:  Rebecca M Bowman, 8th child of Thomas and Anna Bowman was born near Piqua, Shelby County, Ohio, April 20, 1843. Moved with her people to LaPorte, Ind. when six years old, moving again in 1856 to Delaware County, Iowa. She was united in marriage to John B Schermerhorn July 23 1861 at Cambridge, Ill. In April 1869 they settled on the farm in Scott Township near Marble Rock, where she has made her home to the time of her death. Sept 11, 1914. To this union were born 10 children, three dying in infancy; Frank of Opodope, Mexico; Eugene J of Hagerman, Idaho; Sarah (Mrs George Reams) Meltonville, Iowa; John T of Rockford, Iowa; Wayne of Hope, Idaho; Anna(Mrs Thomas Richards) of Spokane, Wash; and Bea who was the companion and comforter of the aged mother's later days.* Reference: [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/16409158/rebecca-margret-scherm...
