About Rebecca Davis
So t Re ve F
Wh e Thomas Reeve was a settler of Southold, Thomas Reeve; settled in Southampton, L. I. So far as we knowthey are unrelated. Thomasof Southampton (born 1646) appears, as we said earlier in this Chapter, to have been a so of ThomasReeves
who came from England in the "Beves' in 1658 married Hannah
Rowein Roxbury, Mass. in 1645 and died in 15.50in Springfield, Mass. (see discussion under heading of Howell's History of Southampton on pages 229 etc.)
The practise of entering dates of birth in the TownRecords
seems to have been more prevalent in Southampton than in Southold. The former includes the names of five children of Thomas(2)
and Rebecca — Reeves born from 1673 to 1684 including Thomas (5) born 1679 who, like his father, was a blacksmith. The
estate of Thomas Reeves (2) (who died in Southampton in 1685)
is shown in Suffolk Sessions Court Records; widow Rebecca Reeves.
Rebecca remarried to Benjamin Davis, a widower, who died
in 1692. Following Rebecca's death in 1694 the Southampton
TownTrustees (see TownRecords, Vol V, p67), finding that the
five children of Thomas Reeves and Ben Davis deceased ‘being both fatherless and motherless, directed that they be boundout to families in the community.
