[While there is one census that indicates Rebecca Davis was born in North Carolina, she was almost certainly born in South Carolina, as the other census years indicate.]

Rebecca's father, William Davis, was a lawyer.

On July 1840 William Davis was the Administrator for the estate of C. J. Bailey of Lawrence County, Tennessee.

On April 28, 1843 M. H. Buchanan, Bridges Williams and Wm. Simonton are ordered by the court to lay off and allot to the widow of the late Wm. Davis dec'd., 1 yrs. sustenance out of the estate of the said dec'd. The inventory of the estate of Wm. Davis taken on July 3, 1843 by his Admin. F. Bunchanan and Wm. Simonton. On June 13, 1843 The Admins. sold the books from Wm. Davis' library. These books included Laws of Tennessee, Acts of Tennessee, Justices Manual and Chitty's Criminal Law. The estate included over 200 personal notes from Individuals who owed Wm. money and 8 notes on banks that owed him money for professional services rendered by him. On Oct. 2, 1843 William's Admins, sold his estate. Mrs. Sarah Davis received all the household goods and other various items. Various buyers purchased the remainder of the estate. Unfortunately no other heirs were mentioned.

It appears Wm was born 1776-1780 and Sarah was born 1781 in S. C.
