When Rebecca Scadlock was born in 1642, in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America, her father, William Scadlock, was 30 and her mother, Elinor Longe, was 29. She married William Sheldon (~1622 - 1691) in 1664, in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters. She died on 25 July 1720, in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts, at the age of 78.

In his will, dated 7 January 1661/2 and proved 3 July 1662, “William Scadlocke of Cape Porpus” bequeathed to “my good and dear wife, Ellner Scadlocke,” “the house, land, marsh & cattle, with the appurtenances thereunto appertaining & belonging, both within doors & without …, so long as she keeps herself a widow, but if she happen to marry after my decease, then she to have” her thirds; “but if so be she die as my widow, then all my estate to be equally divided … amongst our children, by them I mean William, Susanna, John, Rebecha, Sam[u]ell, & Sarah Scadlocke” (followed by specific bequests of moveables to each of the children); “my loving wife Ellner [to be] my executrix, & my son William my executor” [MPCR 2:120-21; Maine Wills 1-2].
