About Rebecca Waite

Rebecca’s husband, Henry William Franklin Waite had passed away in 1881 and her second relationship with marriage to a Joseph S. Peake in 1882 ended when Joseph went with the clan that moved to Texas: her sister Sara [Sarah 'Sallie' Woods] with her husband Joseph W. Woods, and another of Rebecca’s sisters Achsah [Achsah Aley McVay] and her husband Joseph McVey. Rebecca elected to remain in Alabama. Formal divorce or not, by 1898, Joseph had started a new family in Angelina County, Texas. Little to nothing is known of the daughter, Edith supposedly born to them. Rebecca kept the name Peake, Peak, or Peek until at least 1900, but reverted to Waite soon after that.

Rebecca had been HWF Waite’s second wife. They were married 24 May, 1871: three years after his first wife Matilda Chapman died at the age of 33. Matilda and Henry had had six children. Rebecca was fourteen years younger than Henry and had two children with him in their ten years together after their marriage in 1871 before he died in 1881.

Around 1926 or 1927 Morgan Zeno Parker and his wife Tennie Adelaid Parker (Waite) moved with their daughter Inez Seth Maddox, her husband James Lucion Maddox Sr., and son James Lucion Maddox Jr., Morgan Zeno and Tennie's son Morgan Aubry and Tennie's mother Rebecca Waite (McLeod) moved 1'569km north to Inkster, Michigan in search of employment and life.

Five years after the move to Inkster, Michigan the Ford Motor Company laid off many people and they all made the return trip back to Mobile and then back to Jackson, Clarke County, Alabama except for Tennie's mother Rebecca Waite and her grandson Morgan Aubry Parker who remained in Inkster. Rebecca died 21 September, 1933 in Inkster, Michigan.
