About Redmond Davis Grigsby
A prominent farmer of the county, he was born April 21, 1818, and was the youngest son of Reuben and Nancy (Barker) Grigsby both natives of Kentucky. His father who was a farmer, came to Spencer County about 1820. Reuben remained there upward of twenty five years, when he moved to Mandeville, Carroll County, Missouri, where he died in 1858. Our subject received a common school education in youth and remained at home assisting his father on the farm until attaining his majority. On February 11, 1841, he married Matilda Stark, and after marriage bought 800 acres of land, but owing to his generosity he lost nearly his entire property by becoming surety to his friends debts. Not disheartened by these reverses, however, he began again, and now is a man highly esteemed by all who know him. He is the father of eleven children, seven of whom are living.
Redmond and Matilda were the parents of the following children:
James Marion Grigsby, 1843-1898
Aaron Franklin Grigsby, 1845-1930
Redmond Taylor Grigsby, 1848-1927
Nancy E. Grigsby, 1852 - unknown
George W. Grigsby. 1854-1876
Henry Clay Grigsby, 1856-1939
Eliza L. Grigsby Lloyd, 1859-1936
Lewis W. Grigsby, 1862-1937
Emily M. Grigsby, 1864-1946
