Third child born to "Ole Reuben" Grigsby and Nancy (Barker) Grigsby. He was given the name of Charles in honor of his grandfather Charles Grigsby.
Charles Grigsby married Matilda Hawkins April 16, 1829 in Dubois County, Indiana. They are the parents of eleven sons and one daughter.
Charles and Matilda (Hawkins) Grigsby moved from Indiana to Missouri with his father, "Ole Reuben" Grigsby, in 1852 (from son, William Scott Grigsby obit). Carrying with them the anvil and leg vice from the Thomas Lincoln farm.
