About Reuben Davis Grigsby, Sr.

"Ole Reuben" Grigsby was born in 1773 in Virginia, the son of Charles Grigsby and Elizabeth (Lyttle) Grigsby..

The Indians killed and scalped his mother and his brother. Very young Reuben was captured by the Indians and held captive for about seven years.

"Old Reuben" married Nancy Barker January 19, 1801 in Nelson County, Kentucky. They are parents of the following known children:

In 1816 "Old Reuben" had the first land entry in Clay Township, Spencer County, Indiana.

The Lincoln State Park in Indiana stands on land "Old Reuben" once owned.

In 1851 he moved to Carroll County, Missouri with his son Charles, Charles's wife and their children.

"Old Reuben" died 1858 at Mandeville, Missouri. He was buried atop Mandeville Hill on the West side at the curve in the road. Years later the troublesome road up Mandeville Hill was re-worked and in the earth moving of that project, the grave of "Old Reuben" Grigsby was disturbed and demolished.
