Remember Bourne was born 16 February 1735, Hanover, Massachusetts, daughter of Nathan and Lydia (Jennings) Bourne. [1]

Note: [2] Original records of Hanover, MA clearly show Remember and her brother, Samuel as children of Nathan and Lydia despite being born only a little over five (5) months apart.

Remember Bourne married in Sandwich, Nathaniel on 23 March 1752. [3] Nathaniel Ellis and Remember (Bourne) Ellis had the following known children:

  1. Jonathan, b. 24 Jun 1752, Sandwich, Mass; d. aft 25 Aug 1776; m. 10 Oct 1773, Celia Tobey, dau of Samuel & Experience (Ellis) Tobey. She m. 2nd 1785 Nathaniel Nye. She had 2 dau. by 1st m. & 5 children by 2nd spouse.
  2. Samuel, b. 8 May 1753; d. 27 Jan 1834, E. Machias, Maine; m. Mar 1784, Mary Nye, dau of Barnabas & Deborah (Tobey) Nye. [Birth of Samuel Ellis taken from family Bible submitted with sworn statements and other civil records [4]
  3. Nathan, b. 6 Jul 1754; d. bef. father's will 9 Mar 1770.
  4. Lydia, b. 10 Oct 1756; d. in Lee, Mass. Apr 1799; m. in Sandwich, 5 Nov 1772, Stephen Tobey who was b. 7 Feg 1746/7, son of Samuel & Experience (Ellis) Tobey; they had 10 children all born in Lee.
  5. Rebecca, b. 28 Mar 1758; d. 21 Aug 1849; m. 1780 Jesse Hoxie who was b. 8 Apr 1748, son of Clark & Sarah (Nye) Hoxie.
  6. Mary, b. abt 1760, bap. 21 Nov 1773; m. James Weeks, b. abt 1763 and who d. 19 Feb 1813, ae 50 (Sandwich Church Records).
  7. Eunice, b. abt 1764, bap. 21 Nov 1773; d. 22 Feb 1856; m. 5 Sep 1789 Seth Clark (Plymouth Vital Records in Mayflower Descendant, Vol.30, p.74).
  8. John, b. abt 1766, bap. 21 Nov 1778
  9. Sarah, b. abt 1768, bap 21 Nov 1773; d. prob. bef. 16 Apr 1775.

Before her marriage Remember Bourne became the ward, 31 Dec 1750, of her Uncle John Bourne [5] In the Will of Samuel Jennings of Sandwich, dated 28 May 1760, he named his granddaughter, "Remember Ellis" (Barnstable County Probate, vol.13; pg.34-5). In the Will of Nathan Bourne, dated 23 July 1761, he named his "granddaughter Remember Ellis."

The Will of Nathaniel Ellis of Sandwich, mariner, dated 9 March 1770 gives "To my beloved wife Remember [made executrix], in lieu of dower...the 1/3 part of all my personal estate, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid and after my wearing apparel and 3 guns are taken out in like manner, I give her the use and improvement of all my real estate (during widowhood).

To my children the liberty of my dwelling house,..I do...impower my executrix to spend L6 in further finishing my dwelling house, to be taken out of my personal estate. To my son Jonathan my wearing apparel and 1 gun. To my sons Samuel & John each one gun and do order that [they] be put to some suitable trade when they are of proper age. To my eldest son Jonathan Ellis, 2/9 of all my Real Estate after my wife's term and 2/'s share of my personal estate & liberty to live in my dwelling house. To my 2 sons Samuel & John and to my 5 daughters: Lydia, Rebecca, Mary, Eunice and Sarah...to be equally divided between them all the residue of my Estate to come into their possession when my wife's term is expended and also the residue of my personal Estate and liberty of living in my dwelling house.

Witnesses: Samel Tobey, Jr., Mattias Tobey and Abraham Williams. Proved by the executrix Remember Ellis, 18 Apr 1770. [6]

On September 6, 1772 Remember married secondly a John Smith and had two (2) daughters,

  1. Remember and
  2. Sarah. [7]
