C.C. Gewin Dies at Age of 89 Former Legislator, U.S. Marshal to be Buried in Greensboro.

C.C. Gewin, former legislator and United Stated Marshal died at his home yesterday afternnon after a prolong illness.Mr.Gewin, 89 years of age, was one of the most widely known citizens of West Alabama. He was born on October 7, 1849 near Greensboro in Hale County (then Greene, the son of Christopher Columbus and Jane Harris Gewin, and he was educated at Green Srpings Academy, near Havana, under De. Henry Tutwiler. Mr.Gewin was among the last survivors of those who attended this celebrated school. He served as sheriff of Hale County four times, his first term being in 1888. He was a member of The House of Represenatives from Hale County in 1911 and in 1914 he was appointed by President Wilson to serve as United States Marshal for the southern district of the fifth circuit. His son Roulbac Gewin is now serving in the same capacity with headquarters in Mobile. Mr. Gewin also had extensive planting intrests and he was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving him are two sons Roulbac and E.E. Gewin, tax assessor of Hale County. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Carl Kelsey of San Diago, California and Mrs. Alice G Mackey of Greensboro, as well as 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon at Mr. Gewin's home in Greensboro. Burial will follow in the Greensboro Cemetery with Jones-Spigener in charge of arrangments. Pallbearers will be C.Y Stollenwreck, C.E. Waller, Judge R.K. Greene, D.B. Borden, Edgar C. Tolbert and Wayne Coleman. Published in The Tuscaloosa News on June, 21 1939
