About Reuben Washburn, Sr.

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Washburn-799

He is the son of James Washburn and Elizabeth Leonard.

From John Maltby:

Reuben Washburn, eldest son of James Washburn Jr., born in Bridgewater, MA, in 1721, married:

1.) Abigail Murrey in ca. 1744,[1] but she apparently died by 1749,

he remarried to:

2.) Betty Dilley/Dellis on 11 May 1749 in Bridgewater.[2]

The parents of both his wives have not yet been discovered, and neither wife appears to have been from a local family.

Reuben Washburn died in Middleborough in ca. 1757, but no death or probate records were filed for his estate in Plymouth County. On 30 June 1757 Betty Washburn, widow, was admitted to full communion in Rev. Isaac Backus’ church in North Middleborough.[6] Reuben Washburn’s brother, Jonah Washburn, was appointed as guardian of Ruben Washburn, of Middleborough, a minor son of Ruben Washburn, of Middleborough, deceased, on 5 Feb. 1759, evidently a son by his first wife, Abigail Murrey, because he was old enough to witness a deed of his uncle, Jonah Washburn, on 19 Aug. 1765.[7]

Reuben Washburn probably had one son by Abigail Murrey:

  1. Reuben Washburn Jr., born ca. 1744, probably in Bridgewater. he married Meriah Holmes, daughter of Jabez and Sarah (Clarke) Holmes, of Plymouth, on 19 Nov. 1767 in Plymouth. She was a granddaughter of Elisha and Sarah (Bartlett) Holmes. He died on 10 Oct. 1775 in Plymouth,

and 3 more children by Betty Dilley:

  1. (Unnamed child), died on 18 July 1750 in Bridgewater.
  2. Sgt. Seth Washburn, born on 2 Aug. 1751 in Middleborough, married Elisabeth Dunbar, daughter of James and Hannah (Benson) Dunbar Jr., on 21 July 1772 in Bridgewater, and they moved to Woodstock, Windsor Co., VT.
  3. Sgt. Isaiah Washburn, born on 27 Nov. 1754 in Middleborough, married Priscilla Wood, daughter of Silas and Priscilla (Cobb) Wood, of Middleborough, on 20 July 1775 in Middleborough.
