"Rev. Christopher Yonges was born in 1575 - not 1545 (in old English script a 7 could easily have been construed as a 4). This was proven - by me (Patricia McCabe) - when I found the records of his ordination in the Norfolk Public Record Office, Norwich, Norfolk, England. Rev. Christopher was ordained an Anglican Deacon in 1599 "in his 24th year" and the following year ordained an Anglican Priest "in his 25th year". Both these ordinations took place in Norwich Cathedral and can be found in the book in which they were originally written. I have a copy of this - it was done by the staff at the record office. The original was in old Latin. I sent copies to Debretts in Winchester (Engl.) and they translated them into English."

Parish records indicated that on January 14, 1611, "Christopher Yong was inducted into the living of Reydon and Southwold" and served as the vicar of St. Margarets from 1611 to 1626.

Ord. deacon (Norwich) Dec. 21, 1599; priest, Apr. 25, 1600. C. of Carlton-by-Kelshall, Suffolk. V. of Southwold and Reydon, 1611-26. Buried at Southwold, June 16, 1626. Will proved (Norwich C.C.) July 5, 1626. Father of John (1620). All his family emigrated to New England. (J. G. Bartlett.)

Rev. Christoper Yonges, Vicar of Reydon and Southwold, England was our last resident ancestor in England, and the principal account of him will be found in the chapters on "By the Name of Yonge" and "Reydon and Southwold." In his boyhood the Reformation swept over England, and Rogers, Latimer and Cranmer were burned at the stake. He married late in life (Elizabeth did not favor the marriage of priests) and came to Southwold in the year in which the translation of the Bible into the King James version was completed. Shakespeare died in 1616, and Bacon in 1626, the same year as Vicar Yonges. No higher tribute can me made to one of his calling than is contained in his epitaph, and we believe he was like "a father in Israel", leading his people into the ways of righteousness. The executors of his will were his wife Margaret, John Smith and Thomas Elliot of Southwold. (Consistory Court Norwich, 1626). The Yonges are said to come originally from Wales. The Yonges family were Earls of Hereford, Lords of Whittingdon and in Wales.

He was born in Reydon, Norfolk, England ? [unconfirmed]. The curate of a chapel in Southwold which was annexed to the vicarage of Reydon had a curate appointed by the vicar of Reydon and that person who was appointed & served between 1611 and 1626 was the Rev. Christopher Yonges.

Robert Williamson of Southwold, mariner, will written October 25, 1617 & proved Feb. 6, 1617 bequeathes ten shillings to Mr. Christopher Yonges preacher of the word of God at Southwold, Eng.

His wife's name was Margaret and they were the parents of the following children (from "Youngs family : Vicar Christopher Yonges, his ancestors in England and his descendants in America : a history and genealogy") "John, b. Eng. 1598; m. Joan Herrington Edward b. Eng., drowned 11 July 1626 Elizabeth b. Eng. drowned July , 1626 Joseph b. Eng. m. Margaret Warren Christopoher b. Eng. m. Priscilla Elvin Mary b. Eng. 1609 d. s. p. Salem, Mass., abt. 1638 m. William Brown Margaret b. Eng. (this may be my ancestor who married Peter Hallock). 9 Martha b. Southwold, Eng., July 1, 1636; d. Southold, L. I abt. 27 June 1671; m. bef. July 1636 Thomas Moore b. abt. ??, d. Southold, L. I., 27 June, 1691."

His will written Nov. 21, 1626 and proved July 5, 1626: "Christopher Yonges, clerk, minister of Soutwold....to wife, Margaret all lands, etc. for life"; to oldest son all of his books except what his wife & other children shall chose, one or two each; to his grandchildren, John & Thomas Yonges, each a silver spoon. The following six children were named, John, Joseph, Christopher, Mary, Margaret & Martha; Wife, Margaret, John Smith & Thomas Elliot of Southwold to be executors.

He was buried two days after his death in the chancel of the church at Southwold, Eng. An 8" by 15" brass tablet set in the chancel floor bears the following inscription (from "Youngs family : Vicar Christopher Yonges, his ancestors in England and his descendants in America : a history and genealogy") HERE LYETH INTERED YE BODY OF MR. CHRISTOPHER YONGES WHO DEC'ED THIS LIFE YE 14 DAY OF JUNE ANNO DOMINI 1626. A GOOD MAN FULL OF FAYTH WAS HEE HERE PREACHER OF GODS WORD AND MANIE BY HIS MINISTRIE WEARE ADDED TO THE LORD (ACT. 11 24)

Reverent Christopher Yonges, (RIN-22273) born England about 1545, died Southwold, England, 14 June 1626, buried two days later in the chancel of the church at Southwold; married Margaret ____, buried Southwold, England, 5 Nov 1630. In the chancel floor is set a brass tablet, 8 by 15 inches, bearing the following inscription:

"Here lyeth interred ye body of Mr Christopher

Yonges who Depted This Life ye 14 day of Jvne

Anno Domini, 1626.

A good man full of fayth was hee

Here preacher of Gods word

And manie by his ministrie

Were added to the Lord. (Act. II 24.)"

There is a pedigree of many generations from Tudor Trevor to Youngs families. (pp 9-11). However, Silas Youngs says: "Christopher Yonges, Vicar of Southwold, 1611-1626 (our last English ancestor), could have been the son of Christopher Younge, Vicar of Ashburton and Ermington, and it is possible that he may have been the Chaplain at Windsor, or the Vicar of Brotherton, Yorks. Although we cannot identify his immediate ancestor, still the arms borne by his grandson, Col. John Youngs is proof that his line of descent is through Tudor Trevor and the Yonges of Brynyorken." (pg 12)

Thus, although the specific line of descent is not proven, the Youngs were of this bloodline, which included Henry Tudor, a Welshman, leading a Welsh army, who defeated and slew Richard III, on Bosworth Field, and became King Henry VII.
