Pastor of the church in this place [Son of Thomas and Hannah Welch, of Windham, Connecticut, and grandson of James Welch, an early settler of Plainfield, Connecticut, was born in Windham, March 20, 1726. His mother was a daughter of John and Hannah Abbe, of Wenham, Massachusetts, and Windham. He studied divinity, and was licensed to preach by the Windham Association of Ministers, May 15, 1750. For a part of the following winter he preached to the newly formed (afterwards called Abington) Society, in Pomfret, in his native county, over which his classmate Ripley was finally settled. In 1751 he began to preach in the North parish in Mansfield, Tolland County, where he was called to settle on December 10, and was ordained and installed as pastor, January 29, 1752. He was taken ill while conducting worship on Sunday afternoon, April 28, 1782, and died in the early hours of the following day, at the age of 56. Rev. Daniel Welch, pastor at North Mansfield CT., 1752-1782, was succeeded by his son Rev. Moses C. Welch, D.D. who was pastor there 1784-1824. -courtesy Jim Welch]
