About Rev. William "Billy" Hannon

After he died, his land on the Pacolet River was sold to Jason H. Carson. In Carson's estate files are many records pertaining to the transfer of this land, which was referred to as "The Billy Hannon Tract."

Rev. William Hannon Jr., the father-in-law of Noah Hampton Hill son of Charles Hill, was the pastor of Wolf Creek Baptist Church. According to the old Wolfe Creek Baptist Church records it is recorded that Charles and Tempy Hill were deceased members of this church. In 1855 a new church was built and a new cemetery along with it, in this new cemetery is the site where Charles and Tempys son Noah Hampton Hill and his wife Elizabeth Hannon (daughter of Rev. William Hannon Jr.) are buried.

Note of interest: William Hannon Jr., survived an Indian massacre in 1776. William Hannon Sr. and older members of the family were killed during this massacre on the South side of the Pacolet River in North Carolina. Edwin, Winnie, and William Jr. ran into a cane break and hid until the Indians left the area. The children then ran down the river bank to Earles Fort. Colonel John Earle raised the three of them. After William Jr. became grown, he became a Baptist preacher and was the second pastor of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church. The former Wolf Creek Baptist Church is now the First Baptist Church of Landrum, South Carolina.

Fort and were taken by the Earles and reared to adulthood.
