"EX-TOWN BOARD MEMBER, MINISTER FIGG DIES AT 69
Woodrow Figg, 69, an Ellettsville minister who served on the Ellettsville Town Board from 1984 through 1987, died this morning at Bloomington Hospital.
Figg, well known throughout the communities of Ellettsville and Stinesville, had been ill for several months.
Arrangements are pending at Chandler Funeral Home. Ower G.L. Chandler, a longtime friend of Figg, said the funeral will be Sunday afternoon at the Ellettsville Methodist Church with burial in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Ellettsville.
Chandler, president of the Ellettsville Town Board, said he and Figg often went out to breakfast together and took drives through the country.
"Woody was a dear friend and one of the finest people I ever knew," Chandler said. "He just couldn't do enough for people."
During the 1987 town board election town districts were drawn for the first time, and since Chandler and Figg lived within the same district, they became opponents. But Chandler said there were no hard feelings and the two often joked about the contest.
Figg served as minister to several churches, including the Stinesville Methodist Church, Simpson Chapel Methodist Church and the Old Dutch Church near Ellettsville. He worked 33 years for the Indiana Employment Security Division in Bloomington, retiring as district director.
He is survived by his wife and five children. Other survivors include three sisters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Edington Figg. [Bloomington Herald-Telephone - Bloomington, Ind. - 5 May 1989]"
