About Reverand Robert T. Wright

Death of a Good Man.

Rev. R. T. Wright died at his home, six miles west of here, last Monday morning, at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 15 days. The cause of his death was paralysis. Mr. Wright, who was familiarly known as "Uncle Bob," was born in Warren county, Ky., but has been a resident of this county for nearly half a century. He has been a member of the M. E. Church South for 65 years and a preacher of the gospel for 60 years. He was the father of seven children, six of whom survive him. They are Mrs. J. T. Wright, of Paducah, Miss Bettie Wright, Dr. C. T. Wright, and Messrs. R. F., J. A. and Crit Wright. The wife of Mr. Wright preceded him to the better land eight years. The burial took place at Wright's Chapel, yesterday morning at 11 o'clock, and the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. J. M. Scott, of Clinton, formally pastor of the Methodist church here. It is needless for us to say to those who knew Uncle Bob that he was a good man, for there never lived a better. He was as nearly without sin as it is possible for one to be, and his whole life has been one of humble devotion to his Maker and kindness to his fellow-man. His death has left a vacant place that can never be filled, but those who loved him have the satisfaction of knowing that he is at rest where pain and sorrow never come. Peace be to his memory.

(The Mayfield Monitor, 17 April 1890).
