Notes

Aaron Cunningham was elected Constable in Carter Co, TN in 1796. He was on the first jury in Maury Co. TN in 1807. He was granted 640 acres in Bedford Co, TN in 1808. In 1813 he served for a time under Col. Wynne and Capt. Porter in a Middle Tenn. Regt. in the War of 1812. He bought and sold many tracts of land in Lawrence Co, TN 1819-41. He was in the 1840 census of Hardin Co, TN, and in the 1845 State Census of Old Tishomingo Co, MS. His estate was administered 1845 by his son Levi, in Hardin Co, TN and Old Tishomingo Co, MS (Levi and Solomon) - copy in my files from Cindy Watson.

Following is an excerpt from a letter written by Hastings Harrison to Sarah Fricks. Mr. Harrison was in Columbia, TN in 1965 searching for Joplin and Cunningham records. "Today I was taken to the big house in which Aaron lived on Rutherford Creek when he left here ca 1821-22....The authorities here insist that Aaron was a Primitive Bapt. Minister who preached in several churches in section of Maury Co, TN before moving away."

Aaron Cunningham was indeed, a minister and performed many weddings in Maury and Lawrence Counties, TN.

His first land entry in Lawrence Co was for 10 acres, assigned to him by G.F. Simonton, surveyor. His neighbors were Gilcrease and Milton. Witnesses: Levi Cunningham and Hopkins Cunningham. He served on the first jury empanelled in Maury Co 12-23-1807.
