Biography

Benjamin was the first child in Tisbury to obtain a high education. He graduated from Yale University in 1708 and studied theology under Rev Jonathan Russell. His parishes were in Worcester, Bridgewater, and Falmouth.

Benjamin married Elizabeth Crocker 5 Apr 1712 in Barnstable, Barnstable County, MA. To this union were born ten children. Four children died in Cape Elizabeth, ME of diphtheria in infancy. Joseph matriculated at Harvard, but did not graduate. Hannah married Rev Samuel Emery. Priscilla married Rev. W. V. (Caleb?) Upham. A daughter married Rev Joseph Crocker. Elizabeth married Clement Jordan. Dorcas married Tristram Jordan.

Benjamin Allen born about 1689 in Tisbury on the island of Martha's Vineyard, son of James and Elizabeth (Perkins) Allen and grandson of Samuel Allen of Braintree, MA.[1]

Graduated Yale 1708.

He married on 5 Apr 1712 to Elizabeth Crocker, daughter of Deacon Job and Hannah (Taylor) Crocker of Barnstable.

His eldest daughter married Rev Stephen Emery (Havard college 1730).

Another married the Rev. Caleb Upham (Havard college 1744) of Truro, also on Cape Cod.

Another married Rev Joseph Crocker (Havard college 1734) of the south parish in Eastham, now Orleans.

He had 9 children, six of which survive him, a son and five daughters.

He died 6 May 1754.
