Biographical Summary

The Reverend John Gibson is the son of Alexander Gibson, Minister of Bower, and Archdeacon of Caithness. He was recommended while a student of divinity by the General Assembly 8 January 1697. Called 19 March, and ord. 8 May 1700. He died between 1 July and 11 Nov. 1724. He married Jean, daughter of Francis Sinclair of Stirkoke, she survived him, and had issue — John ; Alexander, overseer of Ackerness ; William ; Charles ; Katherine (married 1729, William Watt, merchant, Kirkwall) [their son John Gibson Watt, surgeon, London, was founder of Watt's Hospital there.
