He was a prominent settler of Piscataway and lived near the Baptist Church.
Jonathan Martin was the son of Benjamin Martin and Margaret Reynolds. Jonathan Martin had three wives and 15 known children. He married his first wife about the time the new church was formed (in Middlesex Co NJ) and it was recorded as 1706. That wife was Elizabeth Dunham, d/o the new pastor, Rev. Edmund Dunham and his wife Mary Bonham Dunham. Elizabeth died four years later at the age of 21. In 1713 Jonathan married Martha Runyon, d/o John & Ann Elizabeth Dunn Runyon. She died 7 years later at age 27. Both tombstones for Dinah and Jonathan were unearthed in 1971-72 winter when digging up an old Nike missile at the old Hadley Airport. The tombstones were eventually taken to the Metlar House, 1281 River Rd., Piscataway. His reads, 'In Memory of Jonathan Martin - Father of Jacob Martin Esq - who deceased July -- 1768 in the 82d year of his age.' His will was dated May 4, 1768, and proved August 17, 1768.
