Rheinette (57), a missionary's wife, was murdered in her home in Mokopane, Limpopo on 8th February 2008. Reinette and her husband, Pastor Faan Meyer, were going on a mission trip to Malawi that week.
The Meyers' house apparently borders a veld/bush that separates the town from Sekgagapeng, a black neighbourhood. "The attackers cut her throat. Before she died, she pressed the panic button." Ramatseba said. He added that they do not know how many people are involved in Meyer's death.
Security guards from the Strikeforce security services struggled to get into the house. According to a security guard at the scene who did not want to be named, the Meyers' residence looks like a "prison". They called Meyer's daughter, Jana. She unlocked the house and came upon her mother sitting on a chair sitting between the bathroom and master bedroom. She was already dead.
According to the eyewitness, Meyer had several stab wounds to her body. One was a deep stab wound on her neck. Her artery was apparently severed. The eyewitness said there was a lot of blood on the curtains, on the carpet and other places where Meyer apparently touched.
