Rita Wernich (1939 - 2008)

Brief overview:

Rita (60), and her husband, Johann Ludwig Wernich (75), were murdered in their apartment at Maroela retirement village in Mokopane, on 15th February 2008.

According to the couples daughter, Hantie Malan, she and her parents neighbours found the couples bodies on Saturday morning in the master bedroom. She said there was a handkerchief in her father's mouth and a pillow over her mother's head.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Supt. Ronel Otto, said the killer(s) had removed Ludwig's oxygen tubes out of his nose. He often had to use oxygen to keep him breathing facilitated. Mrs. Wernich was either strangled or suffocated.

Initially the neighbours did not expect any foul play, but one of the neighbours saw a man with a cap similar to Ludwig's driving out of the premises in his can later afternoon.
Apparently a security cameral at the main gate had also been tampered with.

No-one has been arrested for the murders.
