About Ricardo Roesch Flum

Cannot find baptismal record for Ricardo, just for Reinhard. It appears he and Reinhard Friedrich are the same person, and that he changed his name to Richard upon arriving to Guatemala.

There is a foto of the Rehberg family (Ricardo's sister Emma and her family) which is labeled in Spanish. One of the children is named "Ricardo." The names in English were provided by Barbara Rehberg (Emma's granddaughter), and the same person was named "Reinhard." This pretty much shows the Roesch-Rehbergs translated Reinhard as Ricardo. Furthermore, the obituary for Gustav Roesch (brother to Reinhard and Emma) mentions Gustav was born in Baden and was survived by nephews and nieces in Central America. Finally, on 12 May 1919, his son Eduardo and widow Eloísa now Rubio entered the US via New Orleans. Eduardo was specifically listed as traveling to Houston to see his uncle Gust. Roesch.

Reinhard was baptised 8 April 1866 in the Evangelisch, Hasel, Loerrach, Baden (IGI Batch No. C936761; Source Call No. 1189759).

Reinhard moved to San Antonio around 1881 or 1882, and appears as witness to his sister Emma's wedding in 1884 in Texas. Must have arrived in Guatemala sometime between 1884 and 1889.

Owned a coffee farm called "California," located around the town of San Joaquín in San Marcos, Guatemala. Later, it was subdivided, with his portion called "La Esperanza." While on the way to his farm with the payroll, he was killed on a ferry from México to Guatemala, and buried at sea.
