About Richard (or Christopher) Choate
Father of Pvt. Christopher Choate
Uncertain origins
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Choate-351
Most of what is known about this Christopher, one of many men by that name in this family, comes from his Revolutionary War pension application. He is often confused or combined with other men with the same name. Christopher Choate and Flora Hawkins of Maryland had at least five children, Christopher, Augustine, Richard, Mary, and Sabret. Augustine died in 1740 with no descendants. Christopher, Richard, and Sabret moved to Virginia in the 1740s and all apparently had sons or grandsons named Christopher Choate. Which of the three Choate sons was his father is uncertain, although several researchers believe that Richard, not Christopher, was his father. (Sabret is ruled out because he never went to Tennessee.[1] This same discussion thread argues against Prudence being his wife, and names her instead, Sally.
