About Richard Cornell

Richard Cornell was an English Quaker ironmaster and resident of Long Island who is generally considered the first European settler on the Rockaway Peninsula in the present-day Borough of Queens, New York City. His father was Thomas Cornell (settler). In 1656 Richard Cornell "settled at Flushing, Long Island, probably before 1656, in which year his name appears in the account book of John Bowne. [2]

Richard married Elizabeth Jessup and they had 13 children.[3]

Richard Cornell, born 8 July 1624 Essex, Eng., died 11 Aug 1694 Far Rockaway, Queens Co., NY.

He was the son of Thomas and Rebecca (Briggs) Cornell, and the grandson of Richard and Mary Cornell, and gr grandson of George Cornell. Richard was first of Flushing, then of Rockaway N.Y. He was an "ironmaster" by trade. He married 1655 Elizabeth Jessup, b. c1631.

Richard," of Thomas," b. about 1625, in England probably Co., Essex, as his sister Sarah at her marriage is recorded as being from Essex; d. 1694 (see will); m. Elizabeth* , about 1655.
