Obituary:
Richard Weiler, 76, died Thursday, August 20, 1998 at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 24 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Reverend Erling Huglen officiating. Corienne Jacobson was the organist, and Vangie Carlson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Shane Olson, Darrin Foss, Wally Rud, Palmer Rud, Brandon Stromberg and Tom Olson. Interment was in the English Cemetery in Strandquist. Military honors were accorded by the Karlstad American Legion Post #445. Arrangements were with the Collins Funeral Home of Karstad.
Richard John Weiler was born on March 4, 1922 at St. Cloud, the son of Phillip and Margaret (Thome) Weiler. The family lived at Little Falls for six years before moving to Columbia Heights.
Dick served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Following his discharge in January of 1946, he moved to Minneapolis.
On October 14, 1948 he was united in marriage to Selma "Sally" Stromberg at Warren. The couple resided in Newfolden until 1959 when they moved to Strandquist. Dick was employed by the Soo Line Railroad until his retirement in 1984. He has resided at the Karlstad Memorial Care Center since January of 1998. Sally died on May 4, 1998.
He was a member of the Karlstad American Legion Post #445 and enjoyed watching various sports on television.
Dick is survived by one daughter, Margie (Billy) Olson of Halma; two stepsons, Gerald (Carolyn) Stromberg of Wever, IA and Merrill (Linda) Stromberg of East Grand Forks; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor Kuskey of Coon Rapids; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one sister, Florence.
