About Richard Franklin Dugan, Sr.

DUGAN R. Franklin Dugan, born July 27, 1916, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on April 22, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lucile Shoger Dugan; two brothers, Warren and Edwin; and one sister, Grace. A man and woman of God, Franklin and Lucile are survived by four loving children, Richard Dugan (Karen), Mary Gugler, Phyllis Bishop and Carol Dugan; four grandchildren, Heather Montgomery, Ben and Mark Gugler, and Justin Bishop; three great-grandchildren, Carolyn, Elena and Andrea Montgomery. As a member of First Baptist Church in Richmond, Va. for 43 years, Franklin was active in many capacities there, including serving on the Board of Deacons. He especially enjoyed being a member of the Joy Singers. In their younger years, Franklin and Lucile were well-known in church circles for their beautiful duets, and singing was a major part of their Christian witness. Franklin received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Universities of Illinois and Michigan, and did post-graduate work at Texas A&M. He taught and did research at West Virginia University for 16 years. Then he spent two years in New Jersey, three years in Roanoke, and the rest of his career in Richmond as a Senior Wildlife Biologist for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. We loved him a lot! Our thanks to all those who ministered to our Dad in these final years, especially his supper-time friends at the Memorial Regional Medical Center. We thank the Lord for giving him a long and healthy life and for taking him home quickly with mercy. His remains rest at March Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave. He will be interred next to Lucile in Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, Va. The graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007.
