Settled on the Blaauwkrantz River with his first wife and three children, John, Joseph and Sarah. Another daughter, Lydia, was born, but Joseph seems to have died young.

Occupation: Wheelwright in 1829 at Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa. He was left a widower with four children when his first wife, Mary Pitt, died. He then married Mary Randall.
