About Richard Hairbottle
Richard Hairbottle was born in the British Isles, probably in or near Cardiganshire, in about 1812. Aged 8, Mr Hairbottle and family emigrated to South Africa in 1820. They were members of the Griffith party from Cardiganshire which sailed aboard the Stentor from Liverpool to Port Elizabeth. From there they were transported by ox wagon to their allotted land on the Eastern Frontier of the Cape Colony.
