About Capt. Richard Lr Shreve
son of William Shreve and Ann Ivins; husband of Margaret Newbold - married 1783; Revolutionary War veteran, Captain, NJ
Richard Shreve was a son of Colonel William Shreve, of Bordentown, N.J. and his wife Ann Ivins, who served seven years under Washington. Richard, Sr., was born September 22, 1760, and his wife, Margaret Newbold was the daughter of Thomas and Ann (Lamb) Newbold, was born May 26, 1760 . They were the parents of thirteen children, namely: William Shreve (1784-1859), Barzilla Shreve(1785-1852), Thomas Shreve (1787-1857), Nancy Ann Negus (1789-1867), Israel Shreve(1791-1866), Charlotte Shreve (1798-1819), Richard Shreve Jr. (1796-1872), Caleb Shreve (1798-1819), Benjamin Shreve(1802-1856), Charles Shreve (1803-1874), Isaac Shreve (1807-1863), Sarah Shreve (1811-1863) and Margaret Shreve (1811-1863). Richard and his wife moved from Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in 1798 (with Thomas, William, Brazillai, Nancy, Israel, Charlotte and Richard), and settled in Bloomfield township, Crawford county, then a vast wilderness. It was here this sturdy pioneer raised his family and cleared a farm. He died September 12, 1822. Richard Shreve was a miller by trade, and was at one time in the employ of George Washington, operating a mill for him. [- from Historical Reference Book of Erie County, Page 877]
