About Robert Abernathy, Sr.
I have a copy of the Will of Robert Abernathy, Sr. that was made when he was living in Lincoln Co., NC (Tryon Co. became Lincoln), on April 8, 1830. Mentioned are 4 sons: Buckner, Samuel, Frederick, and Robert; and 3 daughters: Lucy Shelton, Susan Lee, and Frances Bird. The Will indicates that Robert was a slave-holder. Robert instructed that his slaves be divided equally among his children, and he also left his children "all my stock of every kind and all my household goods and furniture of every kind and farming utencils of every kind and all other property besides." The will was probated in April, 1846.
Information on this family comes from Robert Suddath (rasuddath@msn.com).
I am not certain about the birth order of the children I have listed. Also, the children and siblings of Robert Abernathy are the same, and I'm not certain about the correctness of the siblings?
The Find A Grave memorial of Robert, Sr.'s son, Robert Jr., gives Sr.'s birth year as 1749, location Prince George Co., VA. Perhaps one county was formed from part of the other?
Robert Abernathy was born on 1751 in Prince George, Prince George County, Virginia, United States. Robert married Abigail Harwell and had 3 children: Robert Abernathy, Frances Abernathy, and Clayton Abernathy. He passed away on 1848 in Catawba, Catawba County, North Carolina, United States.
Robert Abernathy is my 6th great uncle.
