In April 1775 Robert enlisted in the Revolutionary War and served eight months as a private in Captain Samuel Derby's Company, Col. Scammon's Mass. Regiment, and was in the battle of Bunker Hill. He enlisted again in March or April 1776 and served two months as a private in Captain Abel Moulton's Company, Colonel Prescott's Massachusetts Regiment. He enlisted about November 1777 and served three months as a private in Captain Abel Moulton's Company, Colonel John Frost's Regiment. Robert is the first person to be buried in Elder Grey Cemetery. A bronze plaque, issued by the United States Government, commemorating this Revolutionary War soldier, was placed beside the grave by Raymond Bradeen.
