Family notes

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/4:1:LVSK-3CB

Robert Caldwell & Mary Logan had TWELVE children. Their birth records have been preserved and are correct.

Robert Caldwell and wife Mary Logan were first cousins, once removed - their common grandparents being Joseph Caldwell and Jane McGhie.

Robert Caldwell said to have been in Albemarle Co VA. They moved to Cub Creek Charlotte Co VA about 1741/42 [this would have been Lunenburg at the time, Charlotte was not formed until 1764 and he would have been only a child unless he was born much earlier, which I suspect]. He was on a tax list in Mercer Co KY in 1795 with 18 slaves, 19 horses and 67 head of cattle. He died there 30 Jul 1806 and willed his plantation to son James; to his son Robert he gave 200 acres of improved land or its value. WB 3, p.190, Mercer Co KY

Origins

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Caldwell-342

John Caldwell, his wife Margaret Phillips, and five of their children emigrated from Ireland to New Castle, Delaware on 10 December 1727. Of their two youngest children, Robert was born in Pennsylvania, and James at Cub Creek, Virginia.

John Rodgers (son of the Wm. Rodgers & Margaret Caldwell ) in an 1825 letter to his cousin Elias Caldwell in Washington, DC listed the children of John and Margaret (Phillips) Caldwell when he stated: "Our grandfather's children were Win. , Thomas, David & Margaret, John, Robert & James. " John Rodgers as a nephew / grandson had first hand knowledge of his ancestry.

John was leader and founder of the little colony known for many years as "The Caldwell Settlement." [In Cub Creek, Virginia]. He was Justice of Peace, and Ruling Elder of the Rev. John Thompson's Cub Creek Church. He encouraged the settlement in four counties of Scotch Presbyterians, under authority of Governor Gooch, given in 1738.
