Will
(Edgecomb County, N.C. Sept. 26, 1786)
{{Robert Carlile was sick and weak of body but of perfect and sound mind. He lended to his loving wife, Sarah the use of all his land and plantation during her life also all personal estate of every kind for the purpose of supporting herself and raising the children with the provision that in case of marriage, then all his personal estate be equally divided into five portions, for his wife and four daughters, Susanah, Mary Anne, Sarah and Rhoda.
At the marriage or death of his wife, his two sons, Simon Carlile and Edwin Carlisle get equal shares of said land, houses and orchard.
He bequeathed to his son, Coleman Carlile the tract of land containing 56 acres where Simon Oneal lived, a debt due from Richard Strother of twenty-seven and one quarter silver dollars and his double breeched gun at the time he becomes twenty-one.
He appointed his wife and friend, Robert Degges execuitors of his will.
November Court 1786 - the within will was produced in court proved by the oaths of Elisha Stallings and John Ball. The Execuitors were at the same time qualified and the will ordered to be recorded.
Note* He spelled Carlisle without the "s" except for one time.}}
They had been married twenty-three years and their youngest child, Edwin was about eight years old when Robert died in 1786.
His daughter, Mary died in 1786 sometime after the will was written in September and his wife died in 1786 sometime after his will was recorded in November.
Robert lived to about age 52.
Married Sarah Snell February 10th, 1764. When he died, his will has wife Nancy. May be Nancy Sarah Snell, Sarah Nancy Snell, or he had two totally different wives. Will update if more info can be found.
Will dated September 27th, 1808.. Probated February 1815. Book E page 81, Edgecombe County, NC.
