Robert Drake, of Merstham & Maggetley Bay

Robert Drake of Merstham, Surrey was the 4th son of Henry Drake of Frenches and his wife Mary Lee.

On 6th June 1622 at Merstham he married Joan Gawton, daughter of Thomas Gawton, gent.

They had 1 son (Robert) and 2 daughters (Mary, wife of Capt Richard Hill; and Elizabeth).

They emigrated to Virginia and settled in Accomack Co, where Robert patented 200 acres at Maggetley Bay.

Robert died before 8 September 1636 at Northampton Co, VA. On 8 Sep 1636 Robert Drake was granted 200 acres in Accomack County, VA. Beginning from the half way tree, runing S.E. into the woods & W. upon the maine baye. Due in right of his late father Robert Drake, whoe at his owne costs did transport himselfe, the sd. Robert his sonn, Joane Drake his wife & Elizabeth Drake his daughter.".4
