About Robert Henry Curzon Drury-Lowe

Robert Henry Curzon Drury Lowe was William Drury Holden's and Hon. Caroline Esther Curzon's third son. He baptised at Aston-on-Trent in Derbyshire. After 1849 he was known as Robert H.C. Drury-Lowe, following his father's taking the name and arms of "Lowe" on inheriting the Locko estate.

Robert purchased a commission as an Ensign in the 74th Regiment of Foot in 1850. Robert served in the Kaffir War in South Africa between 1851 and 1853. During the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) he was with the 52nd Regiment of Foot and was aide-de-camp to the Commander-in-Chief in Delhi.

In 1858 he joined the Grenadier Guards as Captain and Lieutenant ranking. He served in China in 1860. He served in Canada between 1862 and 1864, and rose to the rank of Colonel.

He was later a magistrate for the county of Derbyshire.

Robert married Ellen (d 1890), dau. of Joseph Pocklington Senhouse of Netherhall, Cumberland in 1862 Ellen (she died in 1890).

• Ernest Henry Curzon Drury-Lowe (d 1937), m. Norah

• Sydney Robert Drury-Lowe (1871-1945), Vice-Admiral of the Royal Navy, m 1909 Clare Susan (d 1945), dau. of Captain the Hon. Frederick William Charteris

• Florence Felicité (1869-1951)

He later married in 1891 Ida Caroline (d 1951), daughter of Sir Thomas William Proctor-Beauchamp, 4th Baronet.
