BIOGRAPHY: From Ann Grandy Davis, Russell, N.Y. :
Robert Grandy of Muddy River, town of Boston, Mass., in 1679 took the oath of aliegence required of "all persons sixteen years old, and upward, within this countie". This was the first appearance of the name under that spelling in New England. A Robert Grundy was in a 1674 list of the inhabitants of "Muddy River as yey are noteable (taxable) for age." This list call him a "servant to Peter Aspinwall." Robert Grundy and Robert Grandy of Muddy River (modern Brookline) Mass. were obviously the same person.
Where Robert Grandy came from, or who his father was, is not known. He could have been the sone of John Grandy of Virginia - 1635, and gone north when he grw up. Using a genealogist's rule of thumb that a man had his first child when he was 24 years old, we can guess that Rlobert was born about 1650. This makes him a contemporary of Rachel, born about 1652, the supposed daughter of John Grandy. He may have been a son or brother of John Grandear or Grandee of andover, Mass. or he could have come directly to New England from England. A theorythat the Grandys were French Hugenot refugees is so tenuous (sic) that it cannot be dismissed.
Robert Grandy of Roxbury. Mass. married Mercy, who was the daughter of Edmund Parker. Her mother was Elizabeth, the daughter of Abrahams Howe. Edmund Parker had three daughters: Mercy, Esther and Deboran, all being baptised in 1656.
Robert Grandy of Muddy River (modern Brookline) in the town of Boston, Mass in 1679 took the oath of Allegiance required of "all male persons from sixteen years old and upward within the countie". A tax list lists him as "Robart Grundi" a servant to Peter Aspinwall.
