Ancestry's public record for this Robert (link below) shows his parents as Isaac Larimer and Eli Woods; however, that couple resembles Isaac M Larimer, Sr. and Elizabeth Larimer, who are one of this Robert's sons and his wife. Further research is warranted.
Robert Larimer was born in 1720 in Ireland and spent his early years there. The story passed down is that he decided to go the America in about 1740, so his father gave him a stock of Irish Linens and some money for his trip. He booked passage on a sailing ship which unfortunately was wrecked and sank. Robert and at least one other man were able to get to an Island where they were rescued by another ship. The Captain of this Vessel took Robert to America, but sold him into bondage to pay for his passage. We don't know how long this lasted but apparently for some years. The man he was indentured to lived near Philadelphia and was not a very kind "master."
Robert eventually escaped and migrated in to the interior of Pennsylvania, ending up in Cumberland County where he took a warrent for land in August 2, 1762. Here or somewhere along the way he married a girl by the name of Mary Gallagher. To them were born four children, Phebe, Grizell, Isaac, and Ebenezer. He is listed in the 1789 tax list as being in Cumberland County Fermanaugh Township in Pennsylvania and with his son, Ebebezer listed as a freeman, or unmarried property owner. Robert lost his wife Mary in about 1799 just before he and his oldest son Isaac moved to Fairfield County Ohio. He lived only a short time after taking up land and is buried somewhere in that County probably in Pleasant Township where there was a Cemetery and was within two or three miles of Robert's Home.
Robert and Mary took up land near the town of Cocolamus, Juniata Co., Pennsylvania in 1762. When his wife died in about 1799, he and his two daughters and at least one son moved with some of the David Martin family to Fairfield Co., Ohio. Phebe married David Martin's oldest son, William, in about 1800; their first child born in 1801. They moved to Carroll Co., Indiana in about 1834-35 where Phebe died in 1836 and William in 1852.
"Wiseman's History of Fairfield County" records on page 352 says that Robert Larimer was the first resident to die, and his daughter was the first to be married in that locality.
Seeing that this Robert was reportedly born in what is now Northern Ireland, he probably is a not-so-near paternal relative of Robert Larimer, who also migrated to Pennsylvania.
probable uncle or other close paternal relative (but not father) of Robert Larimer
Date and place of birth have also been (erroneously?) reported to be circa 1743 at Kishocoquillis Valley, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
