ROBERT MANSUR / MANSER/ MANSIR/ MONSIR/ MANSOR / MANCER, ETC.
Information from Middlesex Co. Court Tithe lists Genealogies and estates of Charlestown, Mass, Woburn marriage records, Mass. Vital Records to 1850 and House of Mansur (shown as "Robert Manser" on page 12):
Robert's birth place and parents are unknown. The assumption that he came from England, probably Ipswich, is from the House of Mansur. How he arrived in North America is also unknown. A popular legend is that he was one of three brothers on a fishing vessel who jumped ship. Two of the brothers were killed by Indians and he survived. He is believed to be the ancestor of all Mansurs/Mansers of English descent born in North America.
His last name may show Manser / Mansur/ Mansir / Monsir / Mansor and others.
Robert married Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks, a widow, on Jun. 6, 1670 in Charlestown. She was 23. She died on Jan. 3, 1694/1695, surviving Robert, who died before 1680 but did not leave a will. They had five children. See links below.
Robert's grave has not been located. He was likely buried in the Old Phipps St. Burying Ground, but his name is not shown in the online index. They are many unmarked graves.
