About Robert Glass Marshall
Photo of the SS Anchoria, Glasgow to New York (1887), the ship which brought his father to America. Since Robert arrived 2 years later, he might have traveled on a different ship. James Marshall, II arrived in the port of New York on April 30, 1888. He spent 2 years building his home in Plains County, Luzerne township and his family came after the house was completed.
"Robert Glass Marshall reportedly ran away from home, while his parents were visiting family in Scotland. He is known to have been in the vicinity of Winona, Minnesota and to have married and had at least one child.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War I and reportedly received a medal for bravery from France. He visited briefly with his family in the Wyoming Valley, Pennsylvania after the war, but returned to the west and lost contact with the family. He may have died at a relatively early age as a result of war-related health problems."
