ROBERT MURE OF ROWALLAN

According to Sir William Mure of Rowallan, Robert Mure of Rowallan is the son of Archibald Mure of Rowallan and his wife Euphame Kennedy. Historie, p. 69 According to the Historie and Descent of the House of Rowallane: "Robert succeided to his father Archibald, who [Robert] frequented court in the minoritie of king James the third. He was ane man black hared & of ane hudge large stature, Therefore commonlie called the Rud of Rowallan." Ibidem, p. 71

Death

Robert Mure of Rowallan was alive on 17 September 1496 Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, A.D. 1424-1513, charter number 2330 on p. 495 but he died before 23 June 1506. pp. Liber Protocllorum M. Marriage

According to the Historie and Descent of the House of Rowallane, Robert Mure of Rowallan married "Margerie Newtoune daughter to the laird of Michaell Hill in the Merse. ane druncken woman.....She bure to him Johne who succeided, Robert in the Well, James in Craig and Williame of Cocktries. And ane daughter married to Boyle of Hietrie." The Historie and Descent of the House of Rowallane, pp. 72-3 A date and place of death has not been identified for Mariote Newton. She is mentioned in a precept of remission for John Mure of Rowallan dated 2 November 1507, but it is not clear from the text of this deed if she was still alive on that date. All that can presently be said of her is that she was alive on 23 June 1506 and must have died anterior to this date. pp. Liber Protocllorum M.
