(5 d.v.p.) 4da.; (2) 24 Feb. 1612, Anne, da. of Sir Richard Saltonstall†, Skinner and alderman of London and South Ockendon, Essex, wid. of John Harby, skinner, of London, s.p. bur. 13 June 1616.

7. Robert Middleton, “merchant and skynner' of London. M.P. for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis 1604–11 and for London in 1614. According to Mr. Alexander Brown, of Virginia, in his recently published Genesis of the United States, Robert Middleton was one of the original adventurers in the Virginia Company, to which he contributed £37 10s., and also in the East India and North West Passage Companies. “Maurice Abbot and himself represented the English East India Company in their negotiations with the Dutch East India Company in 1614-15.”

He married (1) Margaret, daughter of John Mansell of co. Dorset, and (2) Ann, eldest daughter of Sir Richard Saltonstall, Knight (Lord Mayor of London in 1597), and widow of John Areby or Harry.

He died in 1616, leaving issue

  • a. Thomas Middleton, under age in 1612.
  • b. Robert Middleton, admitted to Gray's Inn 24 Oct., 1620. Living in 1626.
  • c. Richard Middleton, living in 1623, being then about twenty years of age
