About Robert Nickell
Robert Nickell was born in Greenbrier County, (West) Virginia, the son of Robert Nickell and Elizabeth Thompson. Robert married Nancy Ann Morehead in 1820, and they moved north to Athens County, OH, later Vinton County, OH (southern Ohio), in the early 1820s.
After the end of the Civil War and Nancy Ann's death in 1865, Robert the widower left his Vinton County, OH Farm to his eldest son, and moved with a daughter and son-in-law to St. Charles, Madison County, IA. Another of Robert's sons, Robert C. Nickle, and his family were established in St. Charles, Madison County, IA since the late 1840's.
Robert and Nancy Ann Nickell had seven children who survived to adulthood:

Gravestone in Old St. Charles Cemetery, west of St. Charles, Madison County, IA states Robert passed July 4, 1868 aged 70 years, 6 months and 16 days. This places his birth date at January 19, 1797.
