Hardesty's The West Virginia Heritage Encyclopedia - Volume 7, Page 122-123, listing for Lafayette Alford mentions Robert "Robin" Alford:

...His father, who is now sixty-eight years of age, was shot through the thigh while in Tennessee serving in the Confederate army, Wicher's Battalion.  He was badly crippled by his injury, one leg remaining seven inches shorter than the other...

After the death of his first wife, Leanzy Coon, Robert married his nephew WIlliam Alford's widow, Sarah Dolin Alford. Family information indicates that Robert abandoned his second wife and sonafter his return from action in the Civil War.



Robert Alford enlisted in Company B, (1st Battalion Virginia Mountain Rifles)on 6 April 1862 in Logan County (now WV). He transferred to Company D, Capt. Carter's Company, on 19 Nov 1862. Witcher's Battalion is officially known as 34th Battalion Virginia Cavalry.
