About Rodolphus Norris

A Patriot of the American Revolution for MARYLAND. DAR Ancestor # A084427

From http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/f/e/n/Janice-J-Fennell/W...

Rodolphus Norris owned 130 acres of land left to him in his father's will. It was the lower part of the land called 'LUGARES PLAINS."

Rodolphus Norris signed the MARYLAND OATH OF ALLEGIANCE in 1778. Rodolphus Norris is listed on the "SUBSCRIBERS TO THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE, ST. MARY'S COUNTY, MARYLAND, 1788", by Timothy J. O'Rourke, Page 79.

Adult white males were required to take this Oath to the Revolutionary Government of Maryland according to a law passed by the General Assembly in the February Session of 1777. Henry Reeder was the Justice who administered this Oath to Rodolphus Norris.

Rodolphus Norris is listed in THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION PATRIOT INDEX - Centennial Edition, volume II, Page 198.

Dorothy and Rodolphus belonged to the Congregations of St. Francis Xavier and St. Inigoes in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

Rodolphus emigrated to Pottinger's Creek in Nelson County, Kentucky.

Rodolphus was one of the LEAGUE OF MARYLAND CATHOLICS, who traveled to Kentucky, along with Henry Norris and William Brewer.

Rodolphus Norris left a will, witnessed by Ignatius Metcalf and Ignatius French. It was written on April9, 1812 and probated on February 21, 1814.

Rodolphus and his wife are both buried in Nelson County, Kentucky. John and I visited the cemetery in October, 2002. However, the tombstones have been removed from HolyCross Cemetery. We could see the land where they are buried.

The death of Rodolphus was recorded in Nelson County, Kentucky, Book C, Pages 177 and 178.
