Daughter of John Jones and Martha Eliza (Willard) Jones.

Rosena Echstein Jones Giles was born 1 April 1835 in Platteville, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Her parents were John Echstein Jones and Eliza Martha Willard Jones (Hartsough). Rosena's maternal grandfather was Alexander Hamilton Willard, who was with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. She married James K. Giles 21 July 1852 in what was then El Dorado County. The family, now with 8 children, moved to Shasta County about 1879. She lived here the rest of her life. Their ranch was located on Battle Creek, just west of today's Coleman Fish Hatchery. This is often generally referred to as the Ball Ferry area. Rosena Echstein Jones Giles died 8 April 1906 at the home of her son John Walter Giles on Clear Creek in Shasta County. She is buried in Parkville cemetery with her husband James K. Giles and 6 of their children: Mae F. Giles Fritz, George E. Giles, Myra E. Giles, Chauncey A. Giles, Clara L. Giles Wilcox and Rosena Abigail Giles.
