About Rosie M. Benz (Maas)

QUINCY -- Rose Mary "Rosie" Benz, 93, of Quincy, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Blessing Hospital. She was born June 4, 1924, in Quincy, a daughter of Elmer and Coletta (Wellman) Maas. Rosie married Edward Benz on June 16, 1945, in St. Anthony Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1967.

Rosie was a wonderful wife and mother. She made her livelihood on the family farm including raising chickens and selling eggs, affectionately known as the "egg lady." She was a true testament of unwavering faith, family focus and an untiring, service-oriented work ethic to all who knew and loved her. She was a lifelong member of Saint Anthony parish where she was active in the Ladies Society and Quilting group.

Rosie is survived by her children, Ruth Bange, Helen Terstriep and her husband, John, George Benz and his wife, Leah, of Quincy, Margie Terwelp and her husband, Randy, of Payson, Roger Benz and his wife, Tawny, Sharon Mitten and her husband, Terry, of Quincy, Alice Barbour and her husband, Rick, of Morton, Jane Albsmeyer and her husband, Jerry, of Macomb, Carol Allen and her husband, Doug, John Benz and his wife, Sheila, of Quincy, Karen Lewis and her husband, Stan, of Normal and Dr. Robert Benz and his wife, Denise, of Fort Collins, Colo.; her grandchildren, Steve Bange and his wife, Sara, Sara Gentle and her husband, Mike, Greg Terstriep and his wife, Lori, Jeff Terstriep, Brent Terstriep and his wife, Jennifer, Shelley Echternkamp and Jenny Terstriep, Andrew Benz and his wife, Angie, Valerie Wackerly and her husband, Jay, Jason Benz, Mike Terwelp and his wife, Jean, Kevin Terwelp, Brian Terwelp and his wife, Becky, Janet Morton and her husband, Brad, Rebecca Guidish and her husband, Mark, Angela Obert and her husband, David, Edward Benz and his wife, Anna, Christopher Benz and his wife, Laura, Laura Camillo, Nathan Mitten and Emily Mitten, Corey Siepker, Amanda Teel and her husband, Jason, Eric Barbour, Ryan Albsmeyer and his wife, Yuki, Kari Woodrum and her husband, Mike, Melissa Buckner and her husband, Brent, Derrick Allen and his wife, Elizabeth, Jacob Benz, Joel Benz and Jonathan Benz, Ashley Howerton, Kali Lewis, Connor Lewis and his wife, Emily, Shannon Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Abby Lewis, Ellen Benz and Elise Benz; her siblings, Gerald Maas and his wife, Shirley, Raymond Maas and his wife, Margie, Melvin Maas and his wife, Sharon, Robert Maas and his wife, Connie, Thomas Maas and his wife, Julie, Elmer Maas and his wife, Jeanie, Florence Smith, Clara Neisen, Lucille Nieder and Barbara Hilgenbrink; also surviving are over 55 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Benz; parents; a son-in-law, Jim Bange; and siblings, Loretta Klauser, JoAnn Dreyer, Virgil Maas and Clarence Maas.

SERVICES: 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.

VISITATION: 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, Blessing Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice.
