ROY W. SHAFFER, died Friday Oct. 25, 2013 in Aultman Hospital at Canton of injuries received following a fall at his home. Born Nov. 6, 1921 in Kerns, W.Va. he was a son of the late Lloyd and Annie (Nestor) Shaffer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Merle Johnson, Colleen Parks, Grace Gainer, Hazel Phillips, Ray, Howard, Marvin and Claude.

His first wife, Mary Susan (Rohrer) also preceded him in death in 1976.

He was a veteran of WW II in which he served proudly for three years in Europe, the Battle of the Bulge and on Normandy Beach.

Roy was employed at the Sears Co. for 32 years as a service technician retiring in 1985. One of his favorite pastimes was the time he spent with his loving beagles, Maycee and Lady.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Griffin) Shaffer to whom he was married for 35 years. Also surviving are his son, Frank Shaffer of Canton South; grandson, Tony (Jonie) Shaffer; and great-grandson, Royce Anthony of Fresno; a brother, Guy Shaffer of Dover; brother-in-law, Daniel Griffin; and sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Vincent Rock.

"Uncle Roy" will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Lebold-Smith Funeral Home at 248 Park Ave. Bolivar, Ohio where the Bolivar American Legion will also conduct military honors. Rev. Keith Weibe will officiate and Roy's remains will then be taken home to his beloved West Virginia. Friends may call Monday (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
